How to use PrepDay
Everything in the app, explained in plain words. Can't find an answer? Email us.
Getting started
- Install PrepDay from the Shopify App Store and approve the access it asks for: read orders and read products.
- The app opens on the Production sheet for today. There is nothing to import.
- Use the day buttons at the top to look at tomorrow or later days.
- If you see a blue box saying some orders have no date, read How PrepDay finds dates.
How PrepDay finds dates
Your date picker app saves the chosen pickup or delivery date on each order. PrepDay looks for it in this order:
- The Date field name you typed in Settings, if any.
- Fields used by popular date apps, such as
Pickup-DateandDelivery-Date(Zapiet),Delivery DateandPickup Date(Buunto, Bloom, Order Delivery Date and others). - The same fields on each product line, for apps that save the date per item.
- Any field whose name has "date" together with pickup, delivery, collection, shipping or similar.
- A date inside an order tag, such as
2026-10-26.
Dates like 26/10/2026 and 10/26/2026 are read correctly when the day is above 12. For dates such as 05/06/2026, PrepDay uses the format you choose in Settings (day first or month first).
If none of these match, the order goes to Orders by date, No date. That page lists the fields each order has, so you can see where your app put the date and type that name into Settings.
The production sheet
The sheet adds up every open order for the chosen day. Each row is one product and variant. If your customers choose options such as flavour or a message, and your store saves them as line item properties, each option gets its own row, so "Chocolate Cake, Happy Birthday" is counted apart from a plain one. You can turn this off in Settings.
Only orders that are not fulfilled yet are counted. Fulfilled and cancelled orders drop off the sheet. Below the totals you see the orders for that day with their time and method.
Printing for the kitchen
Press Print kitchen sheet. The first page lists products grouped by product type (for example Cakes, Bread, Pastry) with a tick box per line. The next page lists orders by pickup time with their items and notes. Set the product type on your products in Shopify to control the groups.
Week ahead (Pro)
One table with every product for the next 7 days and a total per product. Days over your capacity are shown in red. Use the buttons to move a week back or forward.
Orders by date
- Upcoming: every open order with a date from today on.
- No date: orders where no date was found, with the fields they have.
- Past date, still open: orders whose day has passed but are not fulfilled. Fulfil them in Shopify, or check if they were missed.
Daily capacity (Pro)
In Settings, press Add products, choose products, and set the most you can make of each per day. The production sheet shows a red warning when a day goes over. PrepDay warns you, but it does not stop customers from ordering. To block dates at checkout, use the limits in your date picker app.
Settings
- How your dates are written: day first or month first.
- Date field name: only needed when PrepDay does not find the date by itself.
- Orders without a date: keep them aside, or plan them by the day they were ordered.
- Days between order and production: with the option above, 1 means an order placed today is made tomorrow.
- Show product options as separate rows: on by default.
Plans and billing
Free covers today and tomorrow with printing. Pro costs 19 USD every 30 days, with a 14-day free trial, and adds any date, the week ahead, capacity warnings and CSV download. Start or cancel Pro on the Plan page in the app. Billing runs through Shopify and appears on your Shopify invoice.
